Public
safety can be improved and significant savings achieved by investing in
community-based alternatives to
incarceration, according to two new research briefs released this May by
the US Justice Policy Institute. With
nations facing serious budgetary constraints, these reports offer
policymakers more effective juvenile and criminal justice frameworks to
guide them in making difficult budget decisions.
"There's no magic formula for saving money and protecting public safety,"
said Tracy Velázquez, executive director of JPI. "Rather, policymakers can
use the tools we already have and reduce correctional populations through
incremental changes based on existing, evidence-based strategies….”
With limited resources and mounting incarceration costs leadership,
now more than ever must do everything it can to adopt evidence supported
and data driven practices to ensure success and to get, not just good, but
great results.
We invite you to join
us in the Great City of Atlanta, Georgia, USA for this highly interactive
program. Some have called it "...
one
of the best “hands on” educational programs I have ever attended,
including many Masters level courses I attended in graduate school!”
This
program is conducted in three highly interactive components:
-
Strategy and Tactics for
Evidence-based Best Practices in Correctional Transition to Community,
Probation & Parole, Best Assessment Practice, Performance Measurement &
Quality Assurance
-

adapt a comprehensive offender reintegration implementation plan to the
specific challenges they face at home. This component eliminates the
guesswork usually associated with creating the plan after they return

9:00 AM: Workshop
Knowing what programs to establish does not ensure implementation success.
You need an approach that works and accounts for all who must be engaged
to be there with you all the way!
Strong, coordinated and sustained local capacity is the single most
critical aspect for success with re-entry initiatives. Local efforts at
education, training, planning, and implementation need significant
guidance and support in order to build the capacity for system reform. How
should your case management staff roles and functions adapt to account for
offenders re-entering the community? What is your "go-to-market" plan? We
will review all of these so you have and implement a plan that is both
integrated and takes into account all the relevant stakeholders. Working
from a template, participants will complete their very own draft of a
comprehensive offender reform and reintegration implementation plan
adapted to the specific challenges they face at home. This component
removes the guesswork usually associated with creating the plan after you
return to your office. At the end of the course, attendees will have
created a draft implementation plan customized to their local needs.
4:00 Workshop Day Ends
Day 4: ALL-DAY SITE VISITS, PEER DISCUSSIONS & NETWORKING

9:00 AM: Workshop: Managing Change for Successful Organizational
Transformation
12:00 - 1:00: Lunch
Organizations must anticipate and learn to adapt to change. Introducing
and getting staff and stakeholders to “buy into” something new is a
difficult art to master! This workshop will focus on what the dynamics of
change look like and the factors needed to achieve change quickly and
efficiently.
The session will identify components of organizational structure that can
affect the success or failure of seemingly "wanted" change initiatives,
such as transitions into community.
