DAYS 1 - WORKSHOP 1: Ex-Offender Reform and Transition to Community: Evidence Based Strategy and Tactics

This interactive 3-day course conducts a comprehensive reviews of evidence based offender re-entry and reintegration best practices.  It addresses nine specific components related to offender success in their transition to the community.  Based on the Transition from Prison to Community (TPC) model the course lays the initial foundation and is completed with a review of the comprehensive implementation plan adaptable to individual needs.  It includes breakout exercises, planning and trouble shooting sessions to address core challenges many face.

Topics we will cover include;

  • Overview Re-entry, Resettlement and Reintegration

  • Components of an Effective Reentry Strategy

  • The TPC Model (Transition from Prison to Community Model)

  • The TJC Model will be reviewed.
    (Note: Although this model is being developed at the national level, existing body of work as well as noteworthy resources are incorporated into the workshop.)

  • Best Practices vs Evidence Based Practices

DAY-1 - Optional Workshop
IMPLEMENTATION ACTION PLANNING - Comprehensive Offender Re-Entry Action Planning

This workshop is very hands on.  It is designed for participants who previously participated in Joyfields Institute Cores Skills-I course.  Working from a template, participants will complete their very own draft of a comprehensive offender reform and reintegration implementation plan adapted to the specific challenges they face at home.  This component removes the guesswork usually associated with creating the plan after they return.  At the end of the course, attendees will have created a comprehensive plan customized to drastically cut incarceration costs while enhancing public safety.

Although all can work from a hardcopy model, participants are encouraged to bring their laptops so they can work from an electronic template model to quickly create a plan while adapting the model to their unique challenges.  They will create a draft comprehensive plan that addresses areas essential for a successful offender re-integration plan.  The comprehensive plan includes:

  • Local Governance Structure

  • Steering Team Recruitment Process Plan

  • Creating Accomplishment and Action Priority Summaries

  • Gender Responsive Strategies

  • Collaborative Offender Accountability, Transition, And Supervision (COATS)

  • Roles And Responsibilities

  • COATS And In-Reach Service Strategies

  • Service Areas - Housing, Workforce Development, Transportation, Substance Abuse Treatment, Mental Health Treatment, Health Care, Family Support, Life Skills Programs, Adult Education, Domestic Violence, Faith-Based Organization Support, Victims Services, Entitlements, Law Enforcement, Sex Offenders and Other Services
